Loch Ness is a musical about a spirited Scottish girl who embarks on an adventure through the waters of Loch Ness. The production is scheduled to premiere at Two River Theater during the 2026–2027 season.
Goal / Brief
The team was provided with the client's existing title treatment and previous key art and was asked to explore new illustrative directions. My concepts focused on the relationship between the young protagonist, Nessie, and the mystery of the unknown, using scale and atmosphere to create a sense of adventure and discovery.
Challenges
The creative direction evolved significantly throughout the project, shifting from illustration-based concepts to approaches that incorporated elements of the existing key art and more cinematic imagery. Balancing these different visual styles while maintaining a cohesive direction was a key challenge. In the end, they wanted to move forward with the live-action based concept, so I added some grainy texture to the title treatment made by Kelly Ganning.
What I'm Proud Of
I'm particularly proud of the illustrative concepts developed during the process. Through the use of texture, lighting, and value, I was able to create a sense of mystery and wonder that supported the story's adventurous tone.
