Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters is a musical adaptation of the African folktale about a king who tests the character of his two daughters while disguised as a snake. Although the production was in development, it ultimately did not move forward.
Goal / Brief
Using a brief overview of the story and its key themes, I developed several key art concepts exploring different visual directions. Early concepts leaned into the story's roots as a folktale through illustration, while later rounds incorporated a more realistic approach based on client feedback.
My final key art concept was selected for the production.
Challenges
This was one of the first projects where I developed key art from the ground up. Creating a realistic and polished final image challenged me to expand my compositing and image-making skills while balancing creative exploration with client feedback.
What I'm Proud Of
I'm proud of the variety of concepts I created throughout the process and the opportunity to explore multiple visual approaches. Seeing my final concept selected was especially rewarding and gave me valuable experience developing key art from initial concept to presentation.
